Getting Students into the arts, both on and off campus is one way that the new Emory College Center for Creativity & Arts (CCA) and Emory University's Creativity & Arts Initiative are achieving their mission of celebrating, nurturing, and inspiring the acts of making and studying art. This spring the Creativity & Arts collaborators hit the ground running launching four new programs to reach this goal, including the Emory Arts Passport, Arts and Eats, Out There Arts (OTA), the Artist Survival Skills Series, and a Project Grant fund. Descriptions of each program follow.

Emory Arts Passport
The Emory Arts Passport was conceived to develop greater participation in cultural and arts events within the University. It offers students opportunities to see performances free of charge or at a discount, as well as incentives to immerse themselves in presentations by the Michael C. Carlos Museum, Theater Emory; Creative Writing, Dance and Visual Arts Programs; and Film Studies, Music and Theater Studies Departments.

In February 2008, the program launched targeting arts majors and minors, offering each arts student a Passport and one for their non-arts friend. Students join the Emory LearnLink Passport Conference on Emory's student intranet to find bi-weekly prize announcements for eligible participants and the answers to frequently asked questions. In Fall 2008 the program will expand to all freshman and transfer students and by selling Passports for a nominal fee to all other students (including graduate students). As an incentive to participate, periodic drawings from redeemed Passport coupons culminate in a grand prize drawing from pooled tickets. The grand prize drawing in May 2008 featured Delta Skymiles as well as dinner for four at Watershed restaurant in Decatur. To learn more about this program and how you can participate, click here.

Arts and Eats
The CCA Arts & Eats program provides students a special opportunity to experience a campus arts event with their group! After attending any kind of campus arts event – from exhibition viewings to poetry readings - Arts & Eats can provide a free, private dessert reception for an organized student group (club, fraternity, sorority, residence hall of 25 or more) who attend select arts events. More than one group can work together to hold a joint reception. To learn more or apply for this program, click here.

Out There Arts (OTA)
Creativity & Arts leaders believe that participation in local arts is part of the life-blood of a community and as such should become a life-long habit, for these reasons The Out There Arts (OTA), launched in Spring 2008 is designed to provide resources for organized Emory student groups, resident hall-based groups, and faculty-led class trips to attend off-campus arts and cultural events in the Atlanta metropolitan area. OTA covers all or part of the cost of admission to arts events, and may contribute toward transportation costs depending on the specific needs. This may include providing a flat fee for MARTA Breeze card costs or a subsidy for taxicab fare, personal mileage and parking or shuttle rental. To learn more or apply for this program, click here.

Artist Survival Skills Series
Created by students for students this program is a direct response to the expressed needs of arts students to have better post-graduate guidance for those wishing to enter into creative business. Whether planning to become a professional actor, museum curator or dance writer this series is designed to light the way. From resumes to networking, from "real world 101" to discipline or field specific questions, we've got you covered. Student and series creator, Christie Pettitt-Schieber hopes "that this workshop series will provide information arts students need to make it on their own, open their windows opportunity, kick down doors and follow their ambitions with total confidence." CCA Project Grants
The Emory College Center for Creativity & Arts (CCA) stimulates artistic production and discourse through its grant program support of faculty, students, departments and academic units at Emory College. The CCA welcomes proposals requesting grants to support Emory artists and arts-related projects. Grants are intended to support cultural activities outside of the regular academic responsibility of individuals, departments or units. Departments, programs, SGA-registered student groups, individual regular full-time faculty and staff and currently enrolled students are eligible to apply for a grant up to $3,000. Grants are to support creative projects that are original in nature. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to use the grants as opportunities to experiment and to cultivate new forms of artistic work. They may engage a single art form or a mixture of art forms, and may be exhibited, presented or performed in on-campus as well as off-campus venues. Grants are awarded three times annually for projects that have the potential to engage a wide audience. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary projects are highly encouraged and will receive priority - these types of projects may represent efforts to enlarge upon collaborative interests between departments, units or faculty. Deadlines and more can be found at creativity.emory.edu/grants-resources. To learn more or apply for this program, click here.
